Quotable: Advice for the Working Woman

"This is what I tell young women who ask me for career advice. People are going to try to trick you. To make you feel that you are in competition with one another.... Don't be fooled. You're not in competition with other women. You're in competition with everyone."

Tina Fey, in Bossypants.

I've been wanting to read Bossypants for a long time. I finally did. It isn't great literature, but it is definitely funny.

    Sounds like good advice too...

  2. Madame Psychic, I JUST finished "Bossypants" on Friday! Whatever do you mean "it's not great literature?" (I kid, I kid.)

So many blog-worthy topics in that book. I was intrigued by Fey's assertion that the most offensive question you can ask a woman is actually "How do you juggle it all?" ("people constantly ask me, with an accusatory look in their eyes, you're fucking it all up aren't you?"...) Her anecdote about being hesitant to mention her otherwise perfect babysitter's too-short nail trimming tendencies got me thinking.

And the chapter on Don Fey was extremely charming.

On my 'to read' list too. Think I'll move it to the top of the pile.
