No Escaping Biology

"We are biology. We are reminded of this at the beginning and the end, at birth and at death. In between we do what we can to forget."

- Mary Roach, in Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers

I am also reminded of this when I am sick. And yes, I'm sick again, and so is Petunia. January has been a tough month at Chez Cloud. I'm hoping for an easier (or at least healthier) February!

Hope you get better soon! We spent this weekend prodding DC1 to do the homework he'd missed from being too sick to go to school most of the week. There was a lot of it. I thought there were only 3 things going around (the cold that will not go away, the flu, and the stomach flu), but turns out there's now at least a 4th.

    1. Thanks! You reminded me that I need to check on the state of Pumpkin's homework. Mostly she's figured out that it is smartest to do it at her after school care. But sometimes there's stuff left to do on the weekend.

I am on my second cold. No flu yet (knocking on wood... and yes, we're all vaccinated). Also no stomach bug yet, but am sort of sure that won't last, sadly.

By the end of it he was frighteningly skinny (because he didn't have a lot of weight to lose... and this one was the stomach flu, we think), but a days worth of bland moderately healthy food followed by a day of pizza, ice cream, steak, and hot chocolate seems to be putting him back to normal. (It is amazing how quickly they bounce back.)

The day before yesterday I came to the realisation that I hadn't been sick for a while and wouldn't you know it the very next day I awoke with a sore throat and now have a cold. Will try not to do that again in future

    Hope you feel better soon.

BTW there is a fun Pride and Prejudice quiz on the front page of the Guardian ( www.guardian.co.uk) which might cheer you up. I only scored a puny 4/10 ( beware! they don't give the answers)

  4. We all got influenza back in late November-early December. The only plus side is that we got it out of the way early. We're in the SE, where the influenza struck early. So far we've escaped the norovirus epidemic, but I know if it's anywhere in my zone, I will get it instantly. (I was hospitalized for norovirus while pregnant, and do not relish the memory.)

Oh I'm sorry. It's sure been a tough year for bugs (or a good year for bugs, I suppose, a tough year for those afflicted). We've had several wander through our home, very frustrating. Hope yours departs soon.
